Diving area: The diving sites are located in the north part of the Key, one of the main atractions is the huge amount of fishes and corals that you can appreciate there at 30-40 m deep. You can see species such as: Star Coral, Brain Coral, see fan, Tropical Fishes like : Loros, Barberos, Roncos, Chopas, Chernas, Pargo criollo y crustacean. Also typical of this area is the "Trigonias ", considered the most ancient living fosils in Antillas. There are also shipwrecks, all of them available for a high arqueological interest.

Maria La Gorda Diving Center

MARIA LA GORDA liegt an der südlichen Küste der Westspitze, in der Nachbarschaft zu Cancun in Mexiko. Dieser Ort war früher Treffpunkt und Ruheplatz für Korsaren und Piraten und es finden sich noch Überreste von versunkenen Galeonen, Ankern und Kanonen. Die Entfernung von Havanna beträgt rund 300 km und ist in 3-4 Stunden mit dem Transfer zu erreichen.
Die Anlage VILLA MARIA LA GORDA liegt direkt an einem 8 km langen Sandstrand.  Sie umfasst ein voll ausgestattetes Tauchzentrum, zwei Boote mit Notfall-Ausrüstung und Funk. Die Tauchgründe werden direkt vom Hotel aus angefahren. Im Notfall wird per Helikopter die nächstliegende Klinik mit Dekompressionskammer angeflogen.
Zum Tauchen in kristallklarem Wasser werden bis zu 40 Stellen in Tiefen von 5-46m angefahren; herausragend sind die Höhle La Sala de Maria, die rund 20m tief ist und das Tal der Schwarzen Korallen mit einem 30m großen Korallenriff. Eine Empfehlung für Novizen dürfte sicherlich die Stelle Ancla del Pirata, der "Piraten-Anker", in 15m Tiefe sein.
Tauchsaison ist ganzjährig bei Sicht bis über 40m und Wassertemperaturen um 24°C.
